******July 31 – Saturday – Ohio
“Ohio State Fair”
You are invited to join us later this year at the Ohio State Fair as we “march”
in the parade on Saturday, July 31st, 2010! We assemble in the parking lot
across the street from the north end of the Natural Resources Building.
As we roll into our 5th year, I can tell you every time we’ve gone, we’ve had a
blast – and this year should prove no different! :-)
Each year we’ve attracted a few more participants, and LAST year, we even
had a beautiful float - all the way from the Dayton, OH area - compliments of
Queen Flo Neff of the Sassy Red hatters of Vandalia, OH. She, her husband
and a group of her chapter mates brought the float from the Dayton area, and
finished assembling it at the fairgrounds, in the parking lot across from the
Natural Resources Building.
It was truly a sight to see – a giant red hat trimmed In purple sitting atop a flatbed trailer.
And room for about 20 “marchers” to sit or stand while Flo’s husband pulled us along
with his pickup truck! It was not only our best showing, it was the best “march” we’ve had!
Flo and her husband are planning to join us at the Fair again this year, and if we wind up
with more ladies than we can fit on the float comfortably, I know our friend and parade
organizer, Brett will make sure we have a tram for the overflow!
Discount tickets for both admission to the Fair and all day ride passes are available
through AAA and most area Kroger grocery stores. So think about bringing the family
and making a day of it. Daughters and granddaughters are allowed to “march” with us,
as long as they are in their colors (lavender and pink for little ladies under 50),
but the parade is only about an hour or so out of the whole day – so there’s still
plenty of time for the whole family to enjoy the fair.
So think about setting the day aside for some family fun and some Red Hat camaraderie!
Because our numbers keep growing each year and there is limited seating on the float itself,
I will need to know if you plan to RIDE in the parade so I can request an extra tram
from the parade coordinator, if necessary - which I hope it will be! :-)
So plan to be there - The Ohio State Fair
Saturday, July 31st 2010

Celebrating Katharine Hepburn’s Influence on Fashion
Join us for the …..
Hepburn, Hats and Hywet
Motorcoach Trip
Cost: $89.00 Per Person
Flirty and fabulous, Katharine Hepburn won four Academy Awards in an acting career which
lasted more than 60 years. She began making movies in the 1930s and succeeded almost
immediately, winning her first Oscar for Morning Glory in 1933. Hepburn's characters were
often brash, chilly or even haughty on the outside, yet emotionally fragile at their core; her
quick wit, intelligence and high-class bearing served her especially well in comedies, notably
with co-stars Cary Grant and Spencer Tracy. She is perhaps best known for her role as a prim
missionary opposite Humphrey Bogart in The African Queen. She won two more Oscars for
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967, with Tracy and Sidney Poitier) and The Lion In Winter
(1968), and toward the end of her career the nostalgic On Golden Pond (1981, with Henry Fonda)
got her a 12th nomination and a fourth Oscar. In 1996 she retired to Connecticut and lived there
quietly until her death in 2003.
Trip Highlights ….
We will visit the Kent State Fashion Museum for two exhibits: “Fashion of Katharine Hepburn”
and the “I Never Leave the House without a Hat”!
Lunch at the Akron Women’s City Club.
Stan Hywet Hall in Akron for the Ohio Mart. Ohio Mart is an arts and crafts show that has
